ERROR OF JUDGMENT

“Scotty” Fraser’s Death By Telegraph—Press Association. WELLINGTON, April 8. The Coroner, Mr E. Gilbertson, after hearing expert evidence this morning, found that the tragedy at Kongotai aerodrome on .March 28, when I’ilotOflicer Janies Simpson Fraser, parachutist, was killed when he fell into Lyall Bay, was due to an error having been made in the final stages of packing the parachute. A loop of flexible brass cord is used in drawing the folds of a parachute together before it is finally held in place by a release pin and the canvas enclosing the pack brought up about it. This loop of wire was cut but, for some unaccountable reason, it was not removed, with the result that, although the release pin was withdrawn, the parachute could not be opened. The Coroner found that no blame was to be attached to anyone, for the responsibility as to the final examination of the pack had rested upon the deceased himself.
