FEILDING MEETING

Saturday’s Prospects (By “The Barb.”) Very fair fields will be the order of the day at Feilding on Saturday and Monday. Hawke’s Bay horses claiming engagements are Journet, Ben Braggie, Hunting Cat, Royal Banquet, Candico, Sardius and Passion Flower. The following is a review of the fields: — KAWA KAWA HURDLES. Of £130; 1) mile and 30 yards. Journet won at Hastings so is in winning form, but he is not a good betting proposition on account of his bad manners. Clarion Call has every indication of developing into a topnotch hurdler. Invictus recently showed a return to form, while Gaswyn has two recent wins to his credit. Aga Khan is said to be a “bottler,” but unfortunately in his one start to date over hurdles he toppled over a fallen horse. Widden has a little form, but the balance none. Most money may be forthcoming for Clarion Call, Aga Khan and Gaswyn. ONGO HACK. Of £120; 6 furlong*. When in form Reipar is solid, but is without racing of late. Bias is useful but small, so that 8.9 ninv hamper In i

| Rustem was in the money last week. I Whyte Melville was third both days at Palmerston, Silvanus has a maiden to her credit. Boomerang is only a moderate at best. Ngatirahiri has only started once and that when ho won last spring. Ben Braggie goes fast, but has been sore. The others do not appeal. The order of the betting may read Whyte Melville, Rustem and Illas. FEILDING CUP. Of £400; 1-J mile. Peter Jackson should be in need of flawing to compete successfully with this race-conditioned field. Davistock will be suited to this track. Hunting Cat to my way of thinking will be at a disadvantage round the sharp turns and the short straight. Dungarvan is a handicap horse with big possibilities. Grateful may be at Auckland. Onewhetu must be a serious consideration, as he has been most consistent this last four months. Gay Boy is one that may surprise, while Round Score’s fourth at Hastings last Saturday will influence a few to bo on his side. Royal Banquet, if started, will be one to reflect on. Tiger Gaiu, Windsoreen and Red Rufus are each liable to pop up. A good field of even quality with the best , backed perhaps Dungarvan, Onewhetu and Round Score. MAIDEN STAKES. Of £100; 6 furlongs. There is not a great deal of visible form among this lot. The betting order may be Prevail, Maestro and Tnmden. MANGAONE HANDICAP. Of £2OO ; 6 frrlongs. Diatomous won at Awapuni, but his form is much below what it was. Friesland is more likely to be at Ellerslie, where he is one of the favourites in the Easter. Land Tax is not showing the form when winning last Christmas time. Gold Mission is due any day now. Souchong may be past his best, but has proved himself to have a penchant for this course. Beau Gallante is one that may surprise Bazaine goes very fast and will be suited by the short course. The favourites look like being Bazaine, Beau Ca.-Me and Gold Mission. TAONUINURSERY. Of £150; 5 furlongs. Three winners only me engaged in this race, Laughing Bass, Candico and Sardius, while Mirth has one second to her credit. The rest have no form to warrant support, although The Bigot was twice third at Woodville. Most money may be carried by Laughing Lass, Candico and Sardius. ONEPUNI HACK. Of £l5O 1 mile and a distance. Royal Banquet is m winning form again, while Chile is a greatly improved gelding. Waipiro may du better than at Bulls. Petrarch, although a jumper, possesses speed and may upset calculations. Hunting Queen is said to have improved since hurdling and she, too, may cause a surprise. Muggins is running well enough to suggest (mother win shortly, while Donegal has yet to win a race, although he has been expected and backed three times recently. Of the others Ingenuity, Cloudy Bay and Earl Colossus are possibilities. Three that may. be entrusted with most backing are Chile, Royal Banquet and Donegal. HALCOMBE WELTER. Of £150; 7 furlongs. Midian was recently retired from racing, but here he is back again in tho iruy and if dressed in his best would be very dangerous. Full Throttle is an ideal welter horse. Jubilee Song will be one of the hard ones, while Beau Gallante may prefer tho sprint. Red iPtilus is starting in the Cup, while Sanguine King has lost form. J.imulus goes fast, but is nix solid. Passion Flower looks as bright as a penny after her Hawke’s Hay Cup effort. Coronis and Red Sand possess the best form of the others. Recovery may be looked to from Jubilee Song, Passion Flower and Full Throttle.
