Mr D. S. Wood, of Auckland, arrived at Napier to-day. He will spend over a week in the district. Mr. R.. L. Bone, of Hastings, left to-day on a holiday visit to Taupo and Russell. Mr. W. Gilmore, accompanied by his daughter, Miss E. Gilmore, left Hastings this morning on a holiday visit to Rotorua. Mr. and Mrs. 11. W .C. Baird, of Hastings, have returned home after a very enjoyable holiday at Dunedin and the Hermitage. Sir George Elliot was yesterday appointed chairman of directors of the Bank of New Zealand in succession to Sir William Watson. —Press Assn. Mr A. N. S. Moore, of the Hastings Post and Telegraph staff, has received notification of his promotion to the position of supervisor, postal branch, Hastings. Mr. Geo. C. Thornton, of Clive, the w'ell-known Minorca fancier and president of the North Island Poultry, Pigeon and Canary Association, has been appointed judge of the standard breeds of poultry at the Feilding Fanciers’ Club show on June 4 and 5. Mr Herbert Everett, who has resigned the chairmanship of the Waimea Power Board on account of leaving Nelson for Dannevirke, was farewelled by board members at the meeting yesterday and a luncheon was held in his honour. —Press Assn. Dr. A. D. Nelson has been appointed medical superintendent of the Christ church Hospital, to take the place oi Dr. W. Fox, who has retired. Dr Nelson has been superintendent of the Wanganui Hospital since 1925. There were nine applicants from New Zealand, 14 from Australia and 11 from England. Mr Owen Chapman, formerly of the Public Works Department, Napier, will leave for Fiji at the end of the present month to take up a position with the Public Works Department at that place. He is at present spending n holiday with his mother, Mrs E. M. D. Chapman, of Devonport. Mr Norman Neal, a popular member of the H. 5.0.8. football team for several years, and club secretary for n period, was the recipient of a lire screen at a presentation .it McLean Park, Napier, yesterday. The presentation was made b.v the club captain, Mr H. O. Crawford-Smith, who spoke in high praise of Mr Neai’s work for the club. Another speaker was Mr W. Heffernan, who expressed similar sentiments. Mr h.'enl h to bo married next week.
