MAORI GRIEVANCES

Claims Likely to be Made This year is likely to be remarkable for the number of ancient Maori grievances that aie likely to be revived, and some ot them may he threshed out on the floor of the House. Among these may be listed the Nuhaka North block purchase and ownership of Lake Waikaremoami, and now comes a claim in respect to Mohaka lands confiscated in connection with Maori wars. Ju fur thcranee of the latter object a commit tee has been set up, composed of Messrs It. Wairon (delegate), Pa d Wepilin (secretary), ITori Joe, N. Beta, W. Whale, June Kupa, John Hamilton, W Ilaneta and B. Lemuel. The present object is to inquire into these confiscations, also to deal with other Maori questions. The committee is affiliated with the main centre at Wairoa under the presidency of Mr J. Ormond.
