Fat-Cattle Market at Stortford Lodge
TO-DAY’S REALISATIONS
There was little change in the market for fat cattle at Stortford Lodge today. Prime quality entries made values which were firm o n late races, but other sorts met with a rather quieter inquiry. Out of the yarding of 3Uu head a large percentage were light and unfinished lots. Except lor a lew entries the general quality of the offering was not up to the standard of last week's sale. Heavy prime bullocks were in short supply, the outstanding entry being a splendid pen of eight P.A. bullocks offered on account or Mr Eric Nelson, of Mangateretere. Iho top price was £l3 10/- for the heaviest weight, purchased by the Hawke s Bay rlutcUery Co. Prime young cows of useful weight made to £B. Utiier well-finished entries of lighter weights ranged from £0 10/to £7, The entries of heifers were not as weighty, as m previous offerings, but nicely-tniishcd sorts made to £8 15/-. The following values were offered lotselected entries;— BULLOCK VALUES. A pen of five P.A. and P.A.-Hereford cross turee-year steers, medium framed and carrying fight finish, made from £9 3/- to £9 19/-. A single 2-J-year Hereford steer, lightly finished, made £8 15/-. A single medium-weight Shorthorn bullock, fairly well finished, mad» £lO 18/6. A slightly lighter weight Hereford bullock made £lO 10/-. Two well-framed heavy P.A. bullocks in prime condition made £l2. Two unfinished I'.A.-cross bullocks which could carry a good deal more weight were passed at £9 2/0. On account of lauroa Station a pen of seven well-bred Hereford bullocks, medium framed, well finished and of useful weights ranged from £9 15/’- to £lO 16/-. A bid of £l3 10/- was offered lor an exceptionally heavy prime P.A. bullock, solidly fattened at Mangateretere, and offered on account of Mr Eric Nelson. Also on account of Mr Nelson, a pen of seven handsome, similarly-bred bullocks in extra prime condition, but of lighter weights than the previous entry, made up to £l2 5/-. HEIFER RATES. A pen of four medium-framed, lightly-finished Hereford heifers made £6 13/-. A pen of five Hereford heifers of a similar type, but smaller framed, were passed at £5 18/6. A bid of £6 11/- secured two fairframed light to medium Hereford heifers. Two rather small P.A. heifers carrying good condition made £6 7/6. A small-framed Red Poll heifer carrying good finish made £6 1/-. A bid of £8 15/- secured a wellframed, solidly-finished and weighty Hereford heifer. A single Shorthorn-cross weighty heifer in prime order made £8 t>/-. On account of Tauroa Station, a nicely-grown, medium-framed and wellfinished line made £7 15/-. COW PRICES. Three medium framed Hereford cows which could stand more finishing made £6 5/A single medium-weight cow, fairly well finished, made £6 7/6. A single medium-framed Hereford cross cow, lightly finished, was passed at £6 2/-. Two medium-weight Heerford-<ross cows, plainly finished, made £.i 18/-. A pen of six young well-framed, heavy P.A. cows, of excellent quality and an attractive beef entry, met with good competition to sell in lots of £B, £7 19/- and £7 16/-. A further pen of four P.A. cows from the same draft, similarly bred and extra prime finished, sold in two lots at £8 and £7 15/-. . A pen of four medium-framed young P.A.-Hereford cross rows, carrying good finish, made £6 15/-. On account of Aramoana Station, a pen of five small-framed P.A. cows carrying prime finish and, well fattened sold in two lots at £6 15/- and £6 8/6. Also on account of the same vendors,
a pen of five similarly bred cows made £6 10/-. A bid of £7 secured two young, nicely finished P.A. cows of useful weights. A single Hereford cow, well framed and of medium to prime finish, mad*." £7 2/6. A pen of four fair-framed mediumfinished P.A. cows made £6 5/-. On account of Tauroa Station, a pen of four medium-framed P.A.-Hereford cows, well-finished and of useful weights, made up to £6 11/-. Also on account of Tauroa Station, a pen of seven well-bred young Hereford cows of medium frame and in good order made up to £6 13/-. , On account of Edenham Station, o pen of seven well-finished cows of handy weight made to £6 13/6. Also on account of the same vendors a pen of similarly-bred cows, but of lighter weights, made to £6 11/-.
