Hie proposal of the Napier Borough Council to raise the number of taxi licences from 28 to 32 meets with opposition from 20 taxi-men, and on Monday evening a deputation representing them waited upon the council and lodged a protest. The council listened to the arguments submitted by the taxi-men in committee. 'J he Napier Boys' High School commenced ils annual military training yesterday. Cadets are being instructed in physical and military drill by two instructors from Trentham, and by three representatives of the Napier and Hastings permanent stall'. This year the barracks are to be of three days’ duration only, instead of the wei'k whirl- is usually taken.
