Mr. lan Mclntosh, formerly of Hastings and now of Auckland, who has been visiting his parents, Mr. and Mrs. D. M. Mclntosh, of Hastings, returned north this morning.

Lieutenant-Colonel James Imrie, pub. lisher and trade secretary at the Sal. ration Army headquarters, Wellington, left by the Wanganella yesterday to take up new duties in Australia.

Mr and Mrs T. Lambert, pioneer settlers of Wairoa, celebrate their golden wedding to-day. The former has been a resident of Wairoa for just over 60 years, 40 years of which have been devoted to journalism.

Mr. U. J. B. Norwood, who was involved in a motor accident over a week ago and is still in the Little Company of Mary Hospital, Christchurch, is recovering as rapidly as could be expected. He is not expected to return to Wellington until after Easter.

.Mr. Francis L. Philpott, of St. Patrick’s College, Wellington, son of Mr. H. E. Philpott, M.1.E.E., lias received cabled advice that he has been awarded a “Worcester Scholarship.” lie will leave for England immediately by the Turakina to join H.M.S. Worcester, preparatory to joining the mercantile marine.

Mr. P. W. Fryer, engineer to the Lyttelton Harbour Board, has been appointed a full member of the Institute of Civil Engineers, London. The board congratulated Mr. Fryer on his success, the chairman, Mr. E. J. Howard, M.l’ saying that he had given up farming at the age of 30 to study engineering. He entered the board's service in 1914, and was appointed engineer in 1927 on the retirement of Mr. U J P< Williams.

Mr. L. Richard, late of Bradford, has been appointed by the New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Co., Ltd., to the position of manager of its wool department for the Hawke’s Bay and Poverty Bay districts. Mr. Richard succeeds Mr. G. T. Wordsworth, who left yesterday for England to enter the wool trade at Bradford. Mr. Richard has had a good deal of experience tn the wool trade in New Zealand, having been a buyer for a Bradford milling company since 1923.
