In honour of St. Patrick’s Day today an Irish concert will be held in the Hastings Municipal Theatre tonight, commencing at 8 o’clock.
The annual meeting of the Havelock North Football Club will be held tonight at 7.30 o’clock in the Town Board Hall.
For the purpose of adopting a constitution and rules a general meeting of the Hawke’s Bay Useful Citizens’ League will be held to-night at 8 o’clock in the Trades Hall.
Mr H. Kitto, Government poultry instructor, is at present in Hastings for a few days. Any farmers or poul-try-keepers who desire his services should apply to the Department of Agriculture.
Invitation-holders, members and their friends are reminded that the West End Tennis Club is holding its annual dance on Wednesday evening, March 18, in the Oddfellows’ Hall. Les Henry’s orchestra will supply the music, and a jolly time is assured to all.
At the request of numerous countryclients the management of the Joylands kiosk, Westshore Beach, have decided to put on two big cabaret dances this week, one on the night of the Hawke’s Bay Show, Thursday next, March 19, and the other on the night of the wool sale, Friday, March 20. There will bo a full orchestra on both evenings, excellent floor for dancing, and delicious supper. Subscription 3/6 single, 6/6 double, with no extra charge for reserves. Patrons are advised that there will be no Cabaret on the Saturday evening following.
Do not forget to come along to Nelson Park to-morrow evening at 7.45 to witness the Hastings Amateur Athletic and Cycling Club’s final sports meeting of the season. This meeting will be in the form of an open meeting, and competitors from all over Hawke’s Bay will be competing, as good trophies have been donated. The programme drawn up has been a carefully selected one, and the competition in the events will be thrilling. The women’s relay team will also give an exhibition of how they won the New Zealand championship at Dunedin. Don’t forget to come along to Nelson Park to-morrow evening.
Familiar as household words to all Hawke’s Bay is the name of the Puketapu sports, for they have gained a popularity which extends all over the province. On Saturday next, March 2.1. competitors from all parts will come for the axemen's events, the horse events, national dancing, running and cycling, dog trials, motor races, etc. It will be a thoroughly representative gathering as far as competitors are concerned, and also of the public. Good as past Pnketapu sports meetings have been the Pnketapu Sports Club has <>ertninlv gone one netter this year in drawing up its programme, which is the most attractive yet presented by the club, comprising over fifty events, for which prize money and trophies totalling £20(1 are offered. There should be a record attendance on the ground on Saturday. March 21. There will be a dance ia the evening.
