OLD BOYS FOREGATHER

Napier High School Assn. HASTINGS RESIDENTS Much Enthusiasm Shown Enthusiasm marked the first general meeting of the Hastings branch oi the Napier High School Old Boys’ Association which was held in the Oddfellows’ Hall, Hastings, last evening. An excellent attendance was presidea over by Mr. George Ebbett, and all those who were theie voted the night a wholly successful one and enjoyable from every point of view. Men of all generations who had attended the school were there, and much profitable discussion was undertaken regarding tho future activities of the branch. Apologies for absence were received from Messrs. B. J. Mahoney, G. B. Amyes, K. Douglas, R. Kennedy, R. H. Milburn, D. Frame and N. 1. Greig. At the commencement of the gathering Mr. Ebbett ex—essed his pleasure at seeing such a large attendance, stating that it showed how necessary it was to have a branch of the association in the town. After the resignation of the provisional committee had been accepted the meeting proceeded to discuss the adoption of a constitution for the new body. This was passed pro tem, it being left to a committee of Messrs. Ebbett, E. J. Hallett and R. H. Chaplin to phrase and add certain other points. The election of officers then took place with the following result:— Patron, Mr. W. T. Foster; president, Mr. G. Ebbett; vice-presidents, Messrs E. J. Hallett, R. A. Wellwood; honorary auditor, Mr. N. Fippard; honorary secretary, Mr. R. 11 Chaplin; honorary treasurer, Mr. A. J. Manson ; executive committee, Messrs. E. Brown, H. R. Beuth, M. McCormick, E. Marshall and D. Mclvor. The meeting resolved to open a banking acciunt, the executive being instructed to complete the arrangements. This concluding the formal business, the remainder of the proceedings were devoted to toasts, a musical programme and an interchange of school reminiscences. .With Mr. W. T. Foster at the' i-iauo, the gathering occupied itself with singing lustily a number of the school songs, while Mr. Hugh Baird provided an interesting talk upon his recenj travels in England. Longs oy Messrs. L. Meads and R. H. Chaplin also assisted to make the evening a success. The following toasts were honoured: —“The King,” proposed by Mr. Ebbett; “The Old School,” proposed by Mr. A. J. Manson, replied to by Mr. Foster; “HeretaungaHouse,” proposed by Mr. E. S. West, replied to by Mr. M. Alexander. During the course of his remarks Mr. Foster commented upon the fact that during the last eight years the Napier Boys’ High School had produced two Rhodes Scholars in Dr. W. E. Henley and Mr. M. Cooper.
