NEW MEMBER HONOURED

Tributes to Mr. H. M. Christie

The new member for the Waipawa electorate, Mr H. M. Christie, was tendered, a public reception on Wednesday night in the Clive Hall. Mr C‘. Hellyer presided over an attendance of well over one hundred persons. The appreciation of those present was conveyed to the candidate by the chairman and the following other speakers: Mr H. B. Wilson, president of the Clive branch of the Labour Barty; Mr Lindsay Gordon, the district representative on the Napier Harbour Board; Mr W. Tucker, Hawke’s Bay County Council representative for the Clive riding; Mr L. Harris, ward representative on the Hawke’s Bay Rivers Board; Mr T. A. Smith, on behalf of the Haumoana Beach Improvement Society; and Mr Douglas, on behalf of the Clive School Committee.

Dancing followed and an enjoyable evening was brought to a close with the singing of the National Anthem.

The committee wishes to express its thanks to Mr R. Beil, Mr A. Dockary and Miss N. Carter for the able way in which they supplied the music for the dancing. Thanks are also extended to Mrs F. Merritt.
