Councillor Alport Barker bus been re-elected Mayor of Suva, says a Press Assn, cable.

Sir Alexander Young, retiring Minister of Health, left Wellington for Hamilton by the Limited express last night.

Mr Michael Johnson, of Rfchard Johnson and Nephew, Ltd., England, who has been spending a few days in Napier, left yesterday for Mastertou.

Mr E. B. Waddington, manager of the Napier branch of the Bank of New South Wales, is at present on leave for three weeks. Mr C. A. Greig is in charge during his absence.

Mr Lauchlan McKinnon, of Christchurch, who has been visiting relatives and friends in the Hawke’s Bay district, returned to Napier last evening, where ho will make a short stay.

The Rt. Hon. G. W. Forbes, who was to relinquish the office of Prime Minister this afternoon, will leave tonight by the inter-island express steamer for Lyttelton. He will go straight on to his home at Cheviot.

Mr V. S. Tankard, an old Napier boy. who has been absent from Napier for the last fifteen years, has joined the staff of the Taradale Post and Telegraph office, taking the place of Mr Tooman, who has been transferred to Hamilton. Mr Tankard comes on transfer from Whakatane.

Flight-Lieutenant E. Rawnsley has now taken up his duties as pilotinstructor to the Hawke’s Bay and Eas Coast Aero Club, replacing FlightLieutenant A. G. Gerrand, who is now undergoing a special course of training at Wigram. At the conclusion of that course Flight-Lieutenant Gerrand is to join Union Airways. Dr. Ralph W. Souter, lecturer in economies at Columbia University, New York, has been appointed professor of economics at the University of Otago where he graduated in 1919. Dr. Souter has had a distinguished career in the study of economics, fn 1927 he was granted a Rockefeller Foundation fellowship, which took him to Columbia Uni sity, wher he was subsequently appointed lecturer.—Press Association.
