THREAT TO SHOOT
DESPERATE KIDNAPPER Overpowered by Police CROWD BENT ON LYNCHING (By Telegraph—Press Assn.—Copyright.) (Received 3, 1.40 p.m.) MARSEILLES, Dec. 2. After four days the police arrested a woman aged 68 and her son, aged 25, kidnappers of the 18-months child of Dr. Malmjas, who were demanding a £7OO ransom. When the police were about to entec the apartment the son drew a revolver and threatened to kill the child unless they withdrew. The, police shouted: “We promise not to, arrest you. Don’t fire.” They SHH suited headquarters, -who reinforced the police and ordered an arrest, where 4 upon the police broke-in the door, snatched the child, overpowered the son and arrested the pair, who admitted tho crime. Protection from a crowd of 2000. was necessary to prevent lynching. During the search instructions ea how to feed the child were broadcast, as well as a promise from the father to pay the ransom.
The police believe that the ransom was not wanted but that the real objective of the kidnapping was to secure the child to represent the heir of an important estate.
