RACE FROCKING

On the Lawn in Hastings TAILORED AND FUR COATS From the women’s point of view the Hawke's Btty Jockey Club’s spring meeting, held at the Hastings racecourse on Saturday, was a disappointment. Instead of being that eagerly anticipated opportunity to air one’s newest and smartest spring and summer clothes, the weather was cold and windy and winter hats and coats we.ro worn by the wisest patrons. However, most of those who turned out on such a day were those keenest on the sporting side, and for them the day was interesting and exciting. Very few examples of new styles were noticed and for the most part the women wore tailored and fur coats brightened with silk scarves worn cravat fashion, usually in spotted designs, and in many cases similar silk was used for a halo hat or to trim a hat of straw. Stitched taffeta hats, halo hats and toques were fashionable, and easy to wear tvithout difficulties with the wind.

Slit skirts and skirts laced up from the hem were noticeable in thicker frocks though their fashion will no doubt be carried on into the summer. A bright note was given to ensembles with gay handbags and suede Tyrolean shoes, chiefly blue or brown trimmed with fawn. An excellent musical programme played by the Hastings Citizens’ Band was. appreciated by the patrons. Among those present were:—Mrs G.
