Fruit Control Board
(To the Editor.) Sir, —With reference to Mr A. M. Robertson’s letter in the “Tribune” of the 22nd inst., Mr Robertson certainly did remark, that he expected he would have to support the resolution although this was alter his customary “wriggle” which elicited outbursts ot indignation all over the hall, but whether he did or did not say so is beside the point. Mr Robertson was elected on the Control Board to be the mouthpiece, the representative, of the Hawke’s Bay fruit exporters and in that capacity it is his duty to support their emphatic mandate otherwise he has ceased to be their representative and should resign forthwith. I would like to know how—in his own words—he is going to champion the requests of the growers if he Houts their specific wishes. No-one is fool enough to expect him to consult the growers on every little detail which crops up in the board’s administrations, but when it concerns the vital principle of marketing, and a specific demand is made by his constituents he cannot do otherwise than support it or let someone else do it who will. The rest of Mr Robertson’s letter is mere “eyewash” ; those of us who have disagreed with the marketing policy of the board have just as close-up view of the aspects and problems of. the situation, and have just as much authentic information on the position that Mr Robertson has, and it is just about time he recognised this fact.— Yours, etc., J. N. WALKER. Oct. 24, 1933.
