HARRIER CLUB DANCE

Wind-up to the Season

Ab a wind-up to a most successful season the Hastings Harrier dub held a very jolly dance and presentation evening in the Band Boom last night, when the club officers and officials and ladies’ committee were the guests of the evening. The hall was gaily decorated with hanging streamers in the club’s colours, black and white. The evening was spent in dancing to music played by Mr. Gordon Bedward and several excellent items were also given. Guitar solos were played by Mr. Henry Marshall and a humorous recitation given by Miss Constance Dewson. Miss Enid Lusher later played two flute solos. The accompaniments were played by Miss Margaret Millson. Violin solos were given by Mr. H. Norton accompanied by Miss Florence Parkinson and all the items were very much enjoyed. An energetic men’s committee were in charge of the arrangements for the evening and all did good work and made the function a splendid success. The members of the committee were: Messrs. W. Apperley (hon. secretary), M. Cameron (club captain and M.C. for the evening), K. Dane (assisting secretary), B. Poppelwell, N. Chapman, S. Coles, C. Wright and B. Andersen. The ladies committee, largely responsible for the success of the dances during the season and who were the guests of honour last evening were:—Misses A. Gillman, B. Bunciman, A. Baird, P. Bae, B. Underwood, H. Bates, T. Brinsley and M. Finnie.

After a delicious supper had been enjoyed by everyone the presentation of trophies took place. Mr. H. W. C. Baird, the president of the Hastings Harrier Club, spoke a few words of congratulation io the club members on the success of the past season. He said that he felt sure that the enthusiasm and loyalty of the members had contributed very largely to this success and he felt that the Hastings Harrier Club had been an inspiration not only to the other clubs in Hawke’s Bay hut to those further afield also.

Mr. Malcolm Cameron later extended very hearty thanks from the members to all .those who had so willingly assisted them throughout the year. The trophy list was as follows: — H.8.-P.B. championship shield and the Heretaunga baton for road relay, Hastings to iNapier, teams of four, Napier v. Hastings, won by Hastings A team.

H.8.-P.B. cross-country championship shield, won by Hastings A team. Trophy winner or open handicap road race won by George Denford, Napier. H.8.-P.B. B grade championship and certificate won by Henry Marshall. Road race certificates donated by Mr. J. Stickland, vice-president of the Hastings Harrier Club, won by those who finished the race, Messrs. G. Denford, C. Wright, A. Bromley, A. Lord, F. Brock, B. Poppelwell, B. Andersen, W. Didcott, J. Heenan, G. Beady, A. Hunt, J. Spencer, L. Leckie, I. Bnadden, G. Warden, 1. Reading, N. Chapman and L. Spurdie. The Malcolm Cameron trophy for the fastest time in the Napier to Hastings road race, won by C .Wright. The Hastings club championship cup and certificate, C. Wright. Tho A. M. Robertson trophy and certificate for junior club championship, won by S. Coles,. The Angus Cup and certificate for the winner of the sealed handicap aggregate, won by Henry Marshall. The H. W. 0. Baird Cup and certificate for the most improved runner, won by S. Coles.

Attendance badges, 0. Wright, 1933, 31, 35; M. Cameron, 1932, 34, 35; B. Anderson, 1934, 35; S. Coles, K. Dane, G. Ready, J. O’Shea, I. Snadden all 1936.

Among those present were: Mr. H. W. 0. Baird, president of the club, and Mrs. Baird who wore a dove-grey lace and georgette frock and coatee, the corsage finished with a soft pink bow. Mr. J. Stickland, vice-president of the club, and Mrs. Sticklaud, whose gown was of black needlerun lace worn under a musquash coat.

Mrs. F. Henderson, black lace gown with a black panne velvet coatee. Mrs. S. Watson, pink georgette, the skirt inset with godets of ivory lace and a cape of lace.

Miss I. Parkinson, blue and white plaid taffetas, the skirt trimmed with ruched frills and ruehing edging the neck.

Miss A. Gillman, palest pink finely pin-tucked georgette with frills at the hem and neckline.

Miss M. Finnie, bine georgette with softly cowled neckline and puffed sleeves.

Miss M. Treneman, blue crepe suede, with narrow frills of white organdie embroidered in blue.

Miss J. Horton, white dull satin with softly draped corsage. Miss J. Duck, lemon georgette with frills ot needlerun lace in the same shade trimming the skirt and corsage. Miss J. Symonds, blue and white floral organdie, with frilled bertha effect and blue velvet sash.

Miss G. Jenkins, perriwinkle-blue needlerun lace worn with a coatee ot white velvet.

Miss D. Farmery, pink taffetas with ruched frills edging tho armholes and at the waist.

Miss D. Daly, orange and white plaid taffetas with frilled corsage and blue velvet sash.

Miss N. Coles, blue, white and golden yellow floral organdie with frills over the shoulders and a bow finishing the corsage in front.

Miss M. Millson apple-green satin frock with a ehouldei spray oi pint velvet flowers and pink coatee. Miss E. Holmes, blue needlerun lace with diamante clasps at each side of the neck and a matching belt buckle. Miss Constance Dewson, deep red angelskin lace with epaulette sleeves and relief of silver at the neck.

Miss E. Lusher, white threaded lace worn over blue taffetas with gathered sleeves and blue velvet sah.

Miss F Parkinson, blue silk patterned in white, and having puffed sleeves. Miss June Burton, periwihkle-blue plaid ninon with hip yoke effect and sash of blue velvet. Miss 0. Henderson, blue, black and white plaid taffetas with square neckline and collar effect.

Miss B. Kelly, black souple satin with lace trimming the corsage. Miss M. Godber, white augelskin lace with frills of net edging the neckline which was caught in front with a diamante clasp Miss F. Holde-, deep red fancy velvet. having slashed puff sleeves. Miss P. Boshier, black panne velvet with a bateau neckline and diamante shoulder straps.
