BOXING CHAMPIONSHIPS
Provincial Amateur Titles
TOURNEY ON THURSDAY A glance through the entries received for the Hawke’s Bay amateur provincial boxing championships to be held in the Premier Hall, Hastings, next Thursday evening reveals a judicious selection of representatives from the various boxing schools in the province. It is dear that the mentors have carefully chosen their best and jittest pupils to take part in the tournaihent so that actually the field in all classes next Thursday evening will be very select, ensuring a series of first-class bouts. A further point worthy of note is 1 that all the competitors are those who ' have taken part in recent tournaments, ■ the majority figuring in the programme staged > ecently at Hastings when what was voted the best amateur night to have been held in the district, was held. There is every likelihood of there being a repetition of that evening on Thursday. An assurance that every competitor will be out to give of his best can be given, for depending upon their performances on Thursday will be their prospect of inclusion in any team that the Hawke’s Bay Boxing Association may decide to send to the New Zealand amateur championships at Dunedin next month.
The proceeds of the provincial championships will he devoted towards defraying the costs of sending such a team and as this province is morally bound to send the present, holder. "Buster” Boyle, of the New Zealand flyweight title to defend his crown, it is hoped that the sportsmen of this district will show in a practical manner their support bv attending the tournament on Thursday evening.
