IRISH AFTERNOON

Hastings Townswomen

The members of the Hastings Townswomen’s Guild spent a delightful time at the July meeting, when an Irish afternoon was held, Mrs. E. Riley, leader, welcomed visitors and new members. Business formalities were promptly disposed of, and after this Mrs. J. Jolley sang “ Gillarncy” in a charming manner, and responded with “The Minstrel Bov.’’ Mrs. Budd accompanied her. Miss J. Cassidy was the next performer. She gave the recitation “The Music Makers’’ nnd followed with un encore number, “Lake Isle of Inni-s--iree.” Mrs. Steeveira rend an instructive paper, “Irish Literature,’’ which led up to the playreading of “Riders to the Sea.’’ This was sympathetically read by Mesdahies E. Riley, Jackson, I>. Sturm and Miss 11. Ford, while Mrs. Packwood read the directions.

Afternoon tea was served at an in tcrval.

Mrs. Errol Smith delighted the members with her songs, “Where the River Shannon Flows’’ and “Londonderry,’’ accompanied by Mrs A. Greer. To include nil kinds in the programme, Mrs. F. S. Budd tot: some funny Irish anecdotes,, nnd had her audience convulsed with laughter. Miss Rigg’s reading of H. V. Morton’s “Farewell to Ireland” served ns a fitting elose to the pleasant afternoon.
