ANNUAL DANCE

Swifts Basketball Club

The annual dance of Swifts Basketball Club, held in the Favourite Hall last evening, was a very jolly and successful function. Streamers gay paper hats and many novelty dances greatly added to the jovial atmosphere which prevailed, aud all present voted the evening most delightful. The committee worked exceptionally hard to make the evening a great success. Those on the committee were : Misses E. Bateman and 0. Williamson (joint secretaries), Mrs E. Spence, Mieses I. Williamson, G. Coxon, 1. Anderson, A. Brimer, D. Robinson, R. Symonds, J. Bateman, J. Dobson, M. Isaacson, B. Southcott. M. Shay, J. McCallum, A. Wright, N. Cook and J. Houston. Mesdames J. S. Williamson, 0 Keefe, S. Atkinson and Bateman helped the committee with their work. The hall was most beautifully decorated with masses of streamers in brown and white, the dub’s colours, which stretched from the centre of the room to the walls In the centre hung the team’s basketbail. Quite a new idea was carried out on the stage. At either side were goal-posts made by Mr Spence, covered in brown and white paper, and short hanging from the hoop formed the net. Suspended from the ceiling between the two posts was the name “Swifts,” written in sparkling letters. Messrs 0. Johnson and N. Rummery made capable M.C.’s. An excellent dance pregramme was I played by Gordon Redward and his I orchestra.

Among those, present were:— Miss 0.. Williamson, blue, black and white plaid taffeta, the square neckline having a collar effect forming epaulettes, and a narrow sash of black velvet. Miss E. Bateman, blue organdie, the skirt having inset godets of tiny frills the bertha edged with frills and a blue satin sash. Airs E. Spence, blue, gold and white plaid taffeta having a square neckline, puff sleeves and a sash of gold. Miss Af. Shaw, cherry crepe suede, the neck outlined with 'a frill of gold tissue, and gold tissue lining the bow at the back. Aliss Al. Isaacson, dove-grey and oldrose floral taffeta, the skirt edged with frills of old-rose silk. ALiss B. Southcott, deep red satin wuth ruched puff sleeves and the corsage ruched in front. Miss J. Dobeon, rose-pink satin with puff sleeves, the corsage finished with pin-tucking. Aliss G. Houston, rose-pink net over taffeta with frills at the hem, the corsage of floral taffeta in shades of rose.

Aliss .G. Coxon, black velvet gown worn with a coatee of ivory velvet and having collar and cuffs of white fur. Aliss A. Brimer, floral organdie in primrose shades with square neckline and flared epaulettes. Aliss I. Williamson, black needlerun lace gown, the skirt having insets of black georgette. Mrs F. Rickett, reeida green cotele with cowl neckline and long, softlypuffed sleeves trimmed with gold embroidery and brilliants. Mrs R. Kirkland, gold, black and white plaid taffeta with cartridge pleating over the shoulders and a sash of black. Mrs D, H. Doak, ivory drawn thread voile with tiny floral pattern, frills at the hem, frilled epaulettes and sash of cherry velvet. Airs Atkins, marino-bluo satin gown worn with a bluo velvet coatee and having white fur collar and cuffs. Mrs S. Draper, black lace and georgette gown worn with a cape of silver sequins tied at tho neck. Alias I. Garnett, black panne velvet with puff sleeves and a corsage spray of apricot pink flowers. Aliss D, Hemingson, black crepe euede, tho neckline high and cowled in front and forming a low V at the back. Aliss O. Hemingson, golden taffeta with vandyked ruched frills trimming the skirt, and a cape of cherry velvet. Alias M. Brimer, black velvet frock worn with a cape of silver sequins. Aliss E. Walker, bl uo self-striped cotello, tho f lashed back caught with a brilliant buckle and the puff sleeves also slashed.

Aliss P. Hawley, ivory net over* a slip of blue taffeta, tiny frills trimming the skirt; puff sleeves and a sarsh of white taffeta. Miss _N. Anderson, pink organdie, the skirt finished with tiny pleated frills, epaulettes and a sash of pink velvet. Miss J. Ericksen, green-and-white vandyked striped voile, the sash and epaulettes of white organdie. Miss D. Woon, violet organdie, the skirt finished with frills; frilled puff sleeves and a cape of black georgette. Miss N. Jeffery, blue floral drawnthread voile with puff sleeves and a frill outlining the neck. Miss R. Ogilvie, deep blue windswept satin with elbow-length flared sleeves and a brilliant clasp at the side of the neck. .Miss 0. Connop, ivory lace with a high cowl neckline of georgette, aud a coatee of blue velvet with puff sleeves. Miss D. Hunt, floral ninon, the skirt flounced from waist to hem; a sash of vieux-rose velvet and georgette puff sleeves the same shade. Miss M. Dockary. lemon pique voile, the neckline crossed in front and the back outlined with orchid mauve swansdown. Miss S. Thomas, blue floral silk, the corsage and ruebed puff sleeves of plain blue. Miss B Pierce, blue self checked 'oilc with frills at the hem and edging j the tieck. and puff sleeves. Miss N. Sullivan, green self-cheeked I silk voile, the hem finished with wide frills; flared epaulettes and hows over the shoulders. Miss A. Aliss E. Wright, black phantom crepe worn with a coateo of black velvet. Aliss 11. Burnell, apple-green silk with corsage of floral georgette and having puff sleeves. Alics J. Satchwell, ivory satm gown with flounced skirt, the corsage trimmed with crystal buttons. Miss G, Robertson, Jubilee blue taffetas, the bateau neckline edged with frills and forming off-shoulder epaulettes. Miss B. Frost, wineberry-red velvet, the slashed puff eleeves edged with silver, silver buttons down the back and a red and silver plaited girdle, Aliss J. Barton, blue floral voile, with frills at the hem forming puff sleeves and edging the neck. Aliss K. Bradley, lemon and tangerine floral voile with tiny pleated frills outlining the neck and trimming the corsage and sleeves.

Aliss H. Campbell, cherry lace, the cowl neck corsage of silver with a braces effect at the back and a sash of silver. Aliss T. Pascoe, pink floral drawnthread voile, with flared epaulettes frills on tho skirt and fiat velvet flowers finishing the corsage. Aliss Peggy Walker, coral-pink silk voile with frills of turquoise blue at the hem and edging the neck and blue puff sleeves. Aliss Phyllis Walker, green voile with frills of floral voile at the hem and a sash of black velvet. Aliss N. Symonds, ivory crepe suede, tho neckline cut square at the back and draped in front, being caught at one side with a brilliant clasp. Aliss B. Alitchell, pink windswept crepe, the neckline draped and caught with brilliant clasps and off-the-shoulder sleeves. Aliss B. Pascoe, black velvet with coreage of shell-pink crepe, and a cape of black velvet with high collar of flame. Miss E. Cassin, autumn-tinted floral pique voile with a high cowl Beckline in front, epaulettes and a sash of pink taffeta. Aliss Af. Bartlett, lemon self-figured taffeta with puff sleeves and a soft bow in the front of the neck. Aliss Al. O’Sullivan, cherry taffeta, with ruched frills at the hem, finishing the corsage and edging the epaulettes.
