STREET ACCIDENT

Two Car Drivers Fined Arising out of a collision at the corner of Avenue road and Nelson street, Robert McCay was charged at tho Magistrate’s Court, Hastings, this morning before Mr J. Miller, S.M., with failing to give way to traffic approaching on his right. Senior-Sergeant Macnamara said that McCay was driving along Avenue road, and at the intersection of Nelson street collided with a ear driven by Ivan Lachlan Stewart. Both cars were slightly damaged. McCay, who wrote admitting the charge, said that he was a stranger to Hastings, and was not aware of so many intersections. A conviction with a fine of £2 and 10/- costs was entered.

Stewart was charged with driving in a manner which might have been dangerous to the public. Inquiries by the police showed that Stewart was driving at a speed of over 40 miles an hour.

Mr E. J. W. Hallett, who entered a plea of guilty on behalf of Stewart, said that he was not exceeding 25 miles an hour, and on approaching the intersection slowed down. Stewart was convicted and fined £3 wif!) £1 5/8 coati.
