WIMBLEDON TENNIS

NOTABLE N.Z. VICTORY Defeat of Germans in Doubles MALFROY-STEDMAN SUCCESS (Received 26, 11.30 a.m.) LONDON, Juno 25. The most notable performance of to-day’s play in the Wimbledon tennis tournament was that the New Zealand pair, Malfroy and Stedman, defeated the Germans, Henkel and Lund, in the first round of the men’s doublos. A few minutes before play was due to start, a thunderstorm broke over Wimbledon, causing dismay on account of its being ladies’ day, and soaking many in unsheltered seats. Only a couple of hours’ play was possible on tho covered courts, when rain again stopped play. Results were:— WOMEN’S SINGLES. First Round.
