MONETARY STANDARD

International Basis Wanted — PRELIMINARY CONDITIONS Chambers of Commerce Meeting (By Telegraph-Press Assn.—Copyright.) (Received 26, 11.45 a.m.) PARIS, June 25. Lord Luke, addressing the International Chambers of Commerce, said that Britain aimed at restoration of nn international monetary standard, but before the pound could bo stabilised certain conditions were necessary, including higher commodity prices, lower international trade barriers and avoidance of fluctuations in the purchasing power of gold, arising from monetary causes. Professor Gregory, referring to a suggestion for international stabilisation on a sterling basis, said that was impossible because neither Franco nor America would agree to the British Treasury directing their economic policy. The conference appointed a committee to lay down definitions of fair and unfair trading and unity of lafcs in all countries relating to commercial competition and to act as adviser and arbitrator in law suits relating to unfair competition and advertising.
