MELBOURNE DUEL
Combatants Both Fined (Received 25, 10.25 a.m.) MELBOURNE, Juno 25. The two students who fought a duel last week were fined £1 each for a breach of the regulations governing the conduct of students by the vicechancellor. To avenge his honour after ho had been expelled from the Melbourne University Conservative Club, Stanislaus Joeel vou Ingwersen, a descendant at a noble Danish family, fought a duel with Pater Lalor, a great-grandson of the Eureka stockade hero. Lalor moved the motion for Ingwersen’s expulsion. Ingwersen regarded tins as a stain upon his honour and challenged Lalor to a duel with foils, ( lad in cloaks and accompanied by seconds, an umpire and a surgeon, tho duellists fought until Lalor stumbled and Ingwersen’s foil gashed bis ear. 'I he contestants shook hands and retired to drink coffee, The registrar, Mr Bainbridge, stated that no official notice would be taken ot the affair, which was regarded as a joke.
