STOLEN JEWELLERY
Men Suspected of Receiving SEQUEL TO A MURDER (Received 25, 10.25 a.m.) MELBOURNE, June 25. Matthew Walsh, aged 23, and Keith GUI, aged 21, appeared at tho City Court charged with vagrancy. Ths police prosecutor said that a caretaker of a jewellery firm in Western Australia was murdered and jewellery valued at £4927 stolen. The police had satisfactory proof that Walsh and Gill had been receiving the jewellery. The Magistrate granted the police application tor a remand. The body of Edgar Whitfield, aged about 60, night caretaker employed by Caris Bros., jewellers, Perth, was found last February at the rear of Uio shop with the neck broken, and diamonds valued at £4O(M) er £3OOO weie massing from tho sate. Air \\hitfield was last seen transferring diamonds from the window to the sale in accordance with his usual custom. Later the police received a telephone message from an unknown man saying that he had heard u crash of glass within the shop. An examination revealed the body. The police were oi the opinion that Mr neck was broken during a violent struggle with the burglars.
