Mr. W. Kaye, of Inglewood, who hag been on a fortnight’s visit to Hastings, left for his home by motor-car this morning.
Mr. C. Egerton Ixiwc and Mr. Alexander Watson will conduct this year’® examinations in New Zealand for Trinity College of Music, London, i* music and elocution respectively.
Dr. Stanley Foster, District Governor of Rotary in New Zealand, will probably visit Napier on July 22, according to advice which the Napier Rotary Club received yesterday.
Archbishop O'Shea, who officially opened the new St. Joseph's College for Maori girls at Greenmeadows ou Sunday, returned to Wellington thia morning.
Flight-Lieutenant M. W. Buckley, of the Royal New Zealand Air Force, who has been stationed at Wigram for a number of years, has been transferred to Hobsonville Air Base, where he will be in command of th 0 new bomber flight.
Dr. Kagawa, the Japanese Christian leader, leaves Auckland by tho Niagara to-day after giving 89 addresses to over ‘60,000 people in tho Dominion. He eaid he felt it was wrong that there should be so many unemployed iu tho Dominion. He believed it was partly due to New Zealand's concentrating too much on the English markets and neglecting the Eastern markets.
Mr A. SI. Retemeyer, secretary of tho Hawke’s Bay Agricultural and Pastoral Society, was paid a welldeserved tribute at the society’s annual meeting yesterday by Mr N. Kettle, when moving a hearty vote of thanks to Mr Retemeyer and his staff for their work throughout tho year. “He is one of tho best A. ana P. society secretaries in New Zealand,’’ said Mr Kettle, in proposing tlio motion of thanks, and membeis showed their endorsement of the remarks by carrying the motion unanimously.
Mr Alfred Reid, a very old and prominent member of the Hawke’s Bay Agricultural and Pastoral Society, and a member of the committee for a great number of years, but who asked to be relieved of that position this year, is to receive a letter of thanks and appreciation from the society for his valued services over a long period of years. The chairman, the Hon. H. A. Russell, at yesterday’s annual meeting of the society, spoke of Mr Reid as being one of the most valued members of the committee, and this was endorsed by Mr Iff. Kettle, who proposed that the letter of thanks and appreciation be sent.
