N.S.W. OFFICIAL'S VISIT
(By Telegraph-Press Association.) AUCKLAND, June 19. With the intention of giving the New Zealand Rugby Leagues “any player they want within reason,” Mr. H. R. Miller, secretary of the New South Wales League, arrived to-day to spend a month touring New Zealand. He said that he would endeavour to obtain the services for League in New Zealand of any Rugby Union players which local officials desired. He would also arrange either for an Australian tour of New Zealand or a New Zealand tour of Australia.'
Mr. Miller- expressed the opinion that the standard of Rugby Union play was very low in New Zealand at present. He saw the last All Black team in Sydney. “They were playing against youngsters, and they were beaten badly. Ido not think that there are any Rugby stars in New Zealand at present.”
In reply to questions, Mr. Miller said that at present he had not the slightest thought of “buying” Rugby players, but he admitted that he would be prepared to act at the instigation of the local League. “Anyone they want I will give them within reason,” he said. lie was not in favour of professionalism, but of some compensation for players such as Australian cricketers received.
