HOGGETS SELL WELL
Good Competition for Ewes
WAIPUKURAU VALUES
With a moderate entry, the principal feature in the store sheep section at yesterday’s sale at Waipukurau was the keen competition which was experienced on the few pens of ewe hoggets on offer, and on this class of stock an increase in values was recorded. Ewes generally sold well, with late rates being fully maintained, while the few pens of wether hoggets penned sold steadily.
The ewe entry was of quite good quality, with few pens of rough and inferior sheep penned. Selected entries and prices paid are as follow:—
Running with Southdown rams since March 1, a line of 241 five-year-old ewes, mixed in condition and iu the wool, fairly well mouthed, passed at IS/-. An Argyle entry of 150 two-tooth ewes, running with Southdown rams from March 1, offered on account of Mr Gilbertson, medium to well grown, iu good active order, fairly well woolled, sold at 27/1.
Running with Southdown rams from February 18, a line of 110 five-year-old ewes, bn account of Mr Gilbertson, fairly framed, in good active order, soundly mouthed, fairly well woolled, fresh conditioned, realised 24/6. Ottered on account of Mr W. Hall, a line of 195 four-year-old ewes, run with Southdown rams from March 15. fairly framed, strongly woolled passed at 22/6.
A pen of 204 four, six and eight tooth ewes, running with Southdown rams from March 15, offered on account of the previous vendor, medium to well framed, principally strong woolled, fresh conditioned, passed at 25/-.
A pen of 61 wether hoggets, whiteface, medium framed and in good active order, realised 16/6.
A peu of 80 white-face wether hoggets, on account of a Porangahau vendor, smaller and lighter than the previous pen, made 15/6.
A Wanstead entry of 60 two-tooth ewes, running with Southdown rams from March 1, early shorn, medium framed, in good order, sold at 25/10. An Ongaonga line of 117 white-face ewe hoggets, small to medium framed, mixed in condition, met a keen sale at 22/8.
An Argyle entiy of two-tooth ewes, running with Southdown rams from March 1, medium framed, quite well woolled, iu good order, made 25/-. A draft of 54 four and six-tooth ewes, running with Southdown rams from March 1, quite well grown and woolled, in good order, sold out at 25/6. Offered on account of Mr J. Lewis, and in from Argyle, a peu of 70 four-year-old ewes, well grown sheep, quite well woolled, running with Southdown rams, realised 24/6.
A draft of 101 mixed ago ewes ranging from two-tooths to four-year-old run with Southdown rams from early in March, sold at 2-1/-.
