RACE FROCKING

On the Lawn at Hastings PERFECT CONDITIONS Saturday' was perfect for the second day of the Hawke’s Bay Jockey Club’s races, and the public responded to the mood of the weather by turning up in lull force. The club ver.y thoughtfully laid straw on the lawn, which was a decided improvement on the first day.

Frocks worn were on very tailored lines, brown being the predominating shade, with touches of gay colour showing in scarves and bags. Midnight blue, between a royal and a navy, was also very popular.

Waist lines showed evidence of moving up towards the shoulders, and skirts were noticeably shorter, being about twelve inches off the ground. High necks for suits and pullovers were much in evidence, and hats were smaller than ever, the peaked effect being much worn. As the sun kept warm until the close of the meeting everyone thoroughly enjoyed the day. Among those present were: —- The president, Mr G. D. Beatson, and Mrs Beatson, the latter in a ■wellfitting blue cloth coat with black fur collar, smart blue velour hat. Mrs J. S. McLeod, in a black cloth tailored suit worn with black hat and beige satin blouse.

Mrs lan McLeod wore a dove grey tweed ensemble with hand woven neck scarf and a grey hat of the same shade. Mrs Percy Wall, iu a very smart brown tailored coat with chic brown velour hat with fawn and brown relief. Mrs R. Bettington wore a deep blue tailored coat with pill-box hat to tone.

Mrs Henry Dods, Gisborne, wore a coat and skirt of fawn tweed and a dark brown velour hat.

Mrs A. P. White, in a perfectly tailored brown check Harris tweed suit, and green felt hat. Airs Duncan Holden wore an attractive blue suit and blue hat, a red belt and red kerchief giving a contrasting dash of colour. Airs Oswald Nelson was in a dark brown suit brown hat and furs.

Alias Handyside wore a blackberry tweed ensemble and blackberry hat. Airs C. Giblin wore a green leather coat, green scarf and bottle green hat.

Airs Eric, Beamish was in a slate grey tailored suit and grey hat. Airs M. Clark, Waipawa, wore a black and white check suit, blue hat and .pastel blue shirt. Mrs E. T. Gifford wag in a brown striped worsted suit and brown hat. Airs H. G. Davies wore a black cloth suit with check taffetas blouse, black hat and stoncmarten stole.

Airs Glover was in a coral pink wool ensemble and brown velour hat.

Airs 11. Alacniven wore a green tweed suit, green scarf and green hat. Airs Donne was in a navy blue tailored frock and navy hat. Airs Hamblyn wore Royal blue. Airs Frank Fryer, in a brown coat and skirt and wallflower brown hat. Airs H. J. Abbott, in a grey tailored suit, darker grey hat and bright scarf. Mrs Frank Gordon, in a becoming navy flecked wool suit worn with fox furs and a navy Angora felt hat.

Mrs Neilson was in a brown check ensemble of tweed and a darker brown hat.

Airs Glcadow, Napier, wore a dark brown toque with her brown suit and musquash coat. Airs W. Richmond was in a smart green tailored coat of heavy twill and having the sleeves bordered with squirrel. She wore a green hat to tone. Airs Ivan Logan wore a brown coat and skirt and cherry spotted scarf.

Airs Eric Nelson was in a well cut navy blue coat frock and navy taffetas beret.

Mrs E. L. Sutro wore a navy tailored frock, navy stitched hat and coat of summer ermine.

Alr s W. R. Stead was wearing a pretty green flecked suit of Jersey cloque and soft green hat. Airs Douglas Lane wore a well cut stone beige woollen suit with high neck and finished with fine tucking. Her beige hat had a brown band. Airs Hutton Peacock was in a black and white woollen suit. Her hat was brown.

Airs Ernest Groomo was in a midnight blue tailored suit and navy hat. Airs R. Buddo wore a woollen suit of wallflower shade and hat to tone. Airs J. N. Lowry wore a navy tailored ensemble of rough tweed, relieved with diagonal striping on the collar and facings, and a smart navy hat. Airs F. Twigg, in a grey flecked tweed suit, brown hat and fur.

Airs Georgetti, Crissoge, wore a navy suit and squirrel stole, and navy felt hat.

Mr s L. Alonckton wore a blue and fawn check suit and brown hat and brown fur coat.

Airs J. Wedd was in a maroon cloth suit and maroon hat to match, fawn taffetas blouse and tie.

Airs T. V. Morrin was iu a black and white flecked tweed coat and skirt and black hat.

Mrs F. I*. Kelly wore a black tailored suit, black broadtail coat and black hat.

Airs Harry Rathbone, Waipawa, was in a brown tweed tailored ensemble with gold shirt and a brown velour hat.

Mrs Angus Hislop, in brown musquash coat over a brown suit, and brown felt hat.
