BRILLIANT FUNCTION

H.B. Hunt Club Ball TWO DEBUTANTES PRESENT Gay Dance Throng in Hastings Dancers froim all parts of Hawke’s Bay thronged tho Hastings Assembly Hall last night for a most brilliant ball organised by the Hawke's Bay Hunt Club. This ball, eagerly anticipated by many folk for months previous, fulfilled the very highest expectations, and all who attended agreed that this year’s ball was a huge success. Tho hall was very little decorated, having round the walls painted posters of scenes on the hunting field, but tho gaiety of colour and beauty of the dancers’ evening gowns added to the brilliance of the ball. Tho stage was very beautifully arranged, and from there Les Henry’s orchestra played delightful dance numbers, many appropriate to tho occasion. Large bowls of flowers, arranged in French fashion, were very attractive, with varied blooms and shrubs, Iceland poppies in yellow and orange, shaded camellias, green foliage and bright berries, and these were placed on either side of the stage, and others further back, on tall stands. Peppertree greenery and scarlot berried shrubs gave a background for the bright flowers.

A very tempting savoury supper was enjoyed by the dancers. The tables tn tho supper-room, some long and some short, were arranged by Mrs J. N. Lowry and Mrs Bob Stead. Glorious flat crystal bowls and taller vases were placed alternately along the tables, and were filed with Iceland poppies, narcissi, marigolds and tiny sprays of scarlet berries and mauve heath.
