NAPIER TAILWAGGERS
Work of Past Year MUCH GOOD SERVICE The Napier Tailwaggera ’ Chib has done splendid work in the past year, and the public has not been slow to respond. The following quotations from the annual report of the secretary, Miss K. McKenzie, indicate the scope and bene fit of the club:— A total number of 31 deslitute and injured dogs have been inmates of the home, an increase of nine on last year's figures. Only one dog died from dis temper, while three had to be destroyed at the lethal chamber, as their injuries were too severe to expect a recovery. Street accidents attended to necessitated two being sent to the lethal chamber nt once, while one died in a few minutes. Eleven of the dogs were re- i turned to their owners, while the were found new homes. Two still remain in the home waiting for suitable homes to go to. As usual, whenever possible, homes have been found for unclaimed dogs at the pound, but no records of these arc kept. Advice pertaining to dog management has been given personally and, byletter during the year. In this connecion the veterinary adviser of the club. Mr C. Thomas, has again given freely >i' his time, and attended every injured nil sick dog in the home, besides assist- j ng club members. I An increasingly popular part of the i club’s activities is the assistance given Ip owners of lost dogs. During the holiday seasons, the club is kept particularly busy sending out 8.0.5. calls for lost pets. At Christmas time many btrangers lost their pets, but with the
assistance of 2ZH, Napier, all reported eases were returned to their owners. May 1 again stress the objects o* the club: 1 Restore lost dogs to their owners. 2 Give temporary shelter and food to starving dogs cast homeless and friendless on the streets. 3 Attend street accidents. 4 To provide good homes for unclaimed dogs. The thanks of the club are extended to “The Hawke’s Bay Herald,” our official organ, without whoso help the work could not be carried on; to Mr C. B. Hansen, of 2ZH station; to Mr A. H. D. Mayne, the club’s honorary solicitor, the police for their interest nnd cour teous assistance, and all friends who assist us.
