Waipukurau Opening Day LOCAL BODIES CONFER From Our Own Correspondent. WAIPUKURAU, Juno 14. At a meeting of representatives of the various contributory local bodies and tho Waipukurau Chamber of Commerce, held at Waipukurau this afternoon to discuss matters in connection with the opening ceremony of the new traffic bridge over tho Tukituki river, it was decided that the ceremony should take place on Wednesday, June 26, at 2.30 p.m. Mr C. Pattison, chairman of the Patangata County Council, the chief contributory local body, presided over Messrs A. C. Russell (Waipukurau County Council), N. JL Paulsen (Waipawa County Council), IL A. Martin and I. W. N. Mackie (Waipukurau Borough Council), A. C. Holms and T. G. Given (Waipukurau Chamber ot Commerce) and J. W. Elliott (Patangata County Clerk). The chairman stated that it had been suggested that Sir Alfred Ransom should officiate at the opening ceremony but ho had not been able to participate and subsequently the Minister of Public Works had been approached and had agreed to officiate. Mr Russell said that tho delegates were not looking for anything elaborate or expensive, but favoured n modest and appropriate little ceremony, a dinner being suggested, nt which the representatives of tho various bodies and others attending could be given an opportunity of meeting the Minister. Messrs Mackie and Given expressed willingness on behalf of the Borough Council and Chamber of Commerce <u co-operate iu whatever arrangements should be made. The meeting was in favour of a ' .ncheon a 1 p.nr. to commence the pro- . I 1 amme, after which the opening cereonv would take place. A motion was i irried to that effect. It was decided to ask the following , to attend the luncheon:—Chairman and members of the Main Highways Board, district representative of the Highways Board, chairman of the Waipawa Hospital Board. Mr A. E Jull M.P., chairman and secretary of the Waipukurau

Chamber of. Commerce, Mr W. A. Chambers, Mayor of Waipawa, all members of contributory local bodies, the P.W.D. engineer, district highways engineer and the contractor. The chairman and Mr Elliott were empowered to add to the invitation list. It was decided that Mrs C. Pattison be asked to cut the ribbon at the opening ceremony. The matter of arranging a suitable decorative scheme on the bridge of flags, bunting, etc., was left to the Chamber of Commerce to deal with. Jfr Mackie was appointed to interview the Waipukurau Town Band as to a suitable musical programme. It was resolved that the speakers nt the bridge ceremony should be: Mr C. Pattison, as chairman of the chief contributory local body, Mr I. W. N. Mackie, Mayor of Waipukurau, Mr A. E. .Tull, M.P , and the contractor, after which tho Minister should declare the bridge officially opened, Mrs C. I’attison cutting the ribbon.
