(To the Editor.) Sir,— Obviously “Justice” supports capital punishment, and, of course, he is fully entitled to do so. Perhaps, however, an infusion of genuine sympathy 1 would make the “soft sentiment” seem less “plainly foolish, ’ especially if the condemned man should at any time happen to be a close friend or relative. A careful examination of the “anxiety lest he” (the murderer) “escape a just retribution” may quite possibly reteal justice simulated partly by revenge and fear.—Yours, etc , “HUMANITARIAN.” Havelock North, June 3 .
