An English syndicate is prepared to spend about £2,000,000 in capital on the completion of the abandoned East Coast railway between Napier and Gisborne. The work involved would employ from 1500 to 2000 men continuous ly for a considerable period, possibly for two years. This information was submitted this afternoon to Ministers of the Crown by a deputation from the East Coast. The Ministers were the acting-Prime Minister, Mr E. A. Ransom, and the acting-Minister of Railways, .Mr R. Masters, and the deputation comprised Messrs W. D. Lysnar, former member for Gisborne; J. Jackson, of Gisborne, who is chairman of the local organisation which advocates completion of the East Coast Railway, and C. O. Morse, Mayor of Napier, who represents both Napier and Hastings.

Reporters were in attendance at Parliament Buildings to report the deputation’s representations to the Ministers, but it was decided to discuss the question in camera.

Later it was reported officially that the deputation was assured by the Ministers that everything possible had been done by tho Government to secure a reply from the Prime Minister in London and '.hat they were awaiting information. ,
