OTANE SCHOOL

Meeting of Committee (From Our Own Correspondent) OTANE, May 28. The monthly meeting of the Otane School Committee was held on Monday night, Mr A. E. Black presiding over a full attendance of members. The headmaster, Mr Trevena, reported that the average attendance for last term was 141.4. Three new pupils were admitted. Mr Page reported that Mrs A. V. Celling had granted permission for the boys to play football in one of the “Homewood” paddocks. The secretary w r as instructed to procure the necessary material and have goal posts erected. It was decided to procure an urn for making cocoa for the children who bring their lunch to school. A letter of thanks is to be sent to Mrs Collins for the use of the paddock. A letter of sympathy is to bo sent to Mrs Davis. It was left to the chairman and secretary to arrange for suitable trees or shrubs to plant in a corner of the playground. It was decided to hold the annual school ball bn June 21st, Mr Tierney having kindly consented to change his picture night from Friday, 21st, to Tuesday, 25th June. It was decided to write to the health inspector re school water. Several small accounts were passed for payment. The committee decided to purchase a copy of the picture “Carillon.” and also a portrait of His Majesty the King, both to be hung in the school.
