RUGBY AT TAUPO
Valuable Cup Donated From Our Own Correspondent. TAUPO, May 23.
The Taupo Football Club has been presented with a solid silver cup valued at 25 guineas by Lieut.-Colonel A. N. Ue D. 8.0., 0.8. E., M.A., of Sheffield, England. Lt.-Col. Lee visited Taupo recently, and prior to his departure promised the patron of the club, Mr J. P. Sheehan, that he would be pleased to donate a trophy. At the usual weekly meeting of the management committee of the Taupo Rugby Union on Monday evening it was unanimously decided to allot this valuable trophy for competition amongst the primary schools of the district, and teachers have been invited to attend a meeting to consider the promotion of an annual schools’ Rugby day, to be held in Taupo, the winning team to be the holders of the above trophy for the ensuing year. Another matter discussed was the proposal of the H.B.R.U. to send a colts’ team to play in Taupo on September 21. This date was approved and this match promises to be the big attraction of the season.
