THE JUBILEE BALL
Cider Cup Donated REASONS FOR GOING Not the least of the material aids to a jolly good time at the Mayor of Hastings Jubilee Charity Ball on Thursday night will be the Hawke’s Bay Cider Company’s very generous gift of twenty gallons of cider cup. But apart from that very important consideration there will be such things as the music of two orchestras, namely Mr Les. Henry’s and Mr J. Painter’s, and a lavish and delicious supper contributed by the generous people of town and country.
The purpose of the ball is to provide an occasion for celebrating the King’s Silver Jubilee, and the profits of this brilliant event will serve the purpose of assisting the charities administered by the Mayor's Central Committee. There could be no better pretexts for giving oneself a night’s outing even if one felt that there is no other reason for doing so, but there are other reasons. The chief of them is that in these melancholy times, when the Jeremiahs are having such a good innings, it is up to every man and woman to have some gaiety when it is offering so cheaply as it is at the Jubilee Ball, where for 7/6 double (or 4/- single) patrons will bo provided with a night of real jollity as well as a social gathering worth remembering. It will be one of those affairs at which old friends meet and make their jollification together, and at which the ladies will be able to see who is wearing what, and why—or why not.
