Messrs. Gordon Walker, Ltd. INCREASED PIG PRICES An excellent yarding, a fine attendance ot the public, and very keen competition is reported by Messrs Gordon Walker, Ltd. at their weekly market sale ot poultry, pigs, produce, dairy stock and sundries held on Saturday last at their yards in Russell street, Hastings, Weil over lot) pens of poultry camo forward and last week s record prices tor pullets were easily exceedeu and the top price of 9/9 per head is the best registered for some three seasons past. The firm market lor eggs has re-established an excellent deinamt for pullets. Every pen 01 pullets yarded met with keen competition and any buds right on the lay brought very animated bidding. Cockerels showing any quality were keenly sought atter and a sharp rise was recorded tor these lines, buyers paying up to 10/- each to satisfy their wants. Table birds also met a much brighter market. Right throughout the sale there was a really confident tone and bidding as keen tor the last pens offered as for the first.
Another heavy yarding was recorded in the pig section and. weaners or other lighter lines met with a much keener market than tor the past month, resulting in vendors’ values being easily exceeded for these lines. Most lines came forward in better condition than of late and all lines showing any finish realised upwards of 5/- per head increase. Heavier sorts are still eagerly sought alter and this established" market is ever prepared to go to vendors’ values to satisfy its requirements. Heavy porkers and baconers were being enquired for after the sale as were weaners at market rates. Late rates were easily maintained and on most lines exceeded at a sale with a good healthy tone about it. Dairy stock showing any quality was enquired for and a good selection of sundries offered brought keen competition from a ready market. Fruit and produce were disposed of at vendors’ values. Prices realised were as follow:— Poultry.—Table birds 1/8 to 10/-, W.L. hens 1/8 to 2/3, others 1/4 to 1/7 and 1/2 to 1/6, W.L. cockerels 2/3 to 2/10, young 1/7 to 2/- and 1/- to 1/5, W.L. pullets 5/- to 8/6 (young or late), 3/6 to 4/9, others 2/3 to 3/4 add 2/- to 2/10, 8.0. hens 2/- to 3/5 and 1/8 to 2/5,. 8.0. cockerels 4/3 to 10/-, others 2/6 to 3 5 and 1/6 to 2/2, 8.0. pullets 5/3 to 7/9 (young or late), 3/1 to l/'ll, others 3/- to 4/6 and 2/1 to 3/2, R.LR. hens 2/2 to 2/10, R.LTk pullets 5/6 to 9/9 and 2/- to 3/10, R.LR. cockerels 1/10 to 2/7, B.L. hens 1 6 to 2,5.
