RECORD ATTENDANCE

Messrs. Harvey, Dalton and Hill report another very successful market sale at their mart, Russell street, last Saturday. There was a large entry in all sections while the attendance of the public was very nearly a record. Bidding was very keen all through. We submitted a good line of damaged iron and this met with spirited competition to be sold at 3/6 a sheet. There is an unsatisfied demand for new and second-hand iron. We had an exceptionally large entry of pullets but nevertheless values kept up well, the demand being good for all classes. Wo also had a very heavy entry of carpenter's and gardening tools mid they all met with keen competition.

Prices were: —Poultry: Every pen again filled and a very keen demand. 8.0. pullets 6/- to 6/6, W«*. pullets 5/- to 5/4, 8.0. cockerels 2/3 to 3/6, W. L. cockerels 2/- to 2/3, 8.0. hens 2/- to 2/6, W.L. hens 1/3 to 1/11, R.I.R. hens 1/9 to 3/6, roosters 1/6 to 3/-, ducks 3/8 to 4/6 a pair. Fruit and vegetables: Not a keen demand. Apples 1/- to 1/6, onions 5/-, lettuce id to Id, leek plants 3d, cabbage plants 3d to 6d, perns 6d Io 1/-, potatoes 3/- to 4/- (a large quantity sold), pig potatoes 1/6 to 1/8, carrots Id, pumpkins 3d, lemons 6d to 9d a dozen, honey £1 a tin, melons 3d, beetroot Id to IJd, rhubarb lid, tomatoes 1/6, marrows 2d, spinach id.

Sundries; Axe 2/-, pump 4/-, grease gun 4/9, set balances 3/6, strainer 2/-, slashers 1/6, level 3/6, fork 1/0, scythe blade 3/3, saw 7/-, lantern 2/9, spray 5/6, scales 9/-, tape measure 6/6, chains 4/6, scarifier 15/-, oil 4/6, hot dogge stove £2 13/-, eart saddle £1 10/-, 35 sheets iron at 3/6 a sheet, bicycle wheels 14/-, maize 4/6 a bushel, clippers 2/6, pipes 3/3, netting 9/-, shelving 12/6, 7/- and 12/-, 3 ply 16/6, iron bed £1 5/-, cow cove’s 9/-, wardrobe £3 10/-, table 10/- and a quantity of small sundries at full market rates.
