Perry and Austin Have Wins

N.Z. TEAM FOR DAVIS CUP

Further results in the Bournemouth hardcourt tennis championships are as follow: —

Men’s singles.—Third round: Farquharson beat Lee, 10—8, 6—4, 6 —l; Prenn beat Sharpe, 7 —5, 6 —2, 6 —l; Perry beat Peters, 7 —5, 6—3, 9 —7; Austin beat Avory, 6 —o, 6—o, 6—2. Men’s doubles. —First round: Farquharson and Kirby beat Sharpe and Tuckey, 4 —6, 9 —7, 2 —6, 6 —o. 6 —3; Perry and Butler beat W. Henderson and Lysaght, 6—3, 2 —6, 6 —3. Women’s singles.—Third round: Mrs. Whittingstall beat Senorita Lizana, 6—3, 4—6, 6—4; Miss Stammers beat Mrs. Hopman, 6—4, 6—3. Women’s doubles.—Mrs. Pittman and Miss Yorke beat Mrs. Hopman and Miss Ford, 6 —4, 6—2 Mixed doubles.—Second round: Prenn and Miss Dearman beat Peters and Mrs. Peters. 7 —5, 6—4. The Australian tennis players arrived at Bournemouth. Tbe only persons to welcome them at the station were Lawn Tennis Association officials and E. D. Andrews, of the New Zealand team. Andrews told the Australian Press Association that A .0. Stedman and C. E. Malfroy will play in the singles against Australia. The doubles pair has not yet been chosen. Andrews has recovered from his sprained ankle. The New Zealand team is being coached in London. The Australians will practice at Eastbourne from May 4 for the cup tie.
