WAIPAWA UNITED CLUB

Chairman’s Annual Report The following report of the chairman will be presented at the annual meeting of the Waipawa United Football dub, to be held on Monday evening:—“Together with the other delegates I attended the annual general meeting of the Central Hawke’s Bay sub-union st Waipukurau, when a remit from the club for more equitable representation on the sub-union was defeated. Two teams were entered in the sub-union competitions, senior and junior, and both teams were able to fulfil their obligations throughout the eeason. The following senior players secured representative honours and to them the club extends its congratulations: It. Bupuha, N. Macl’herson, S. Stephenson, J. Stevens, A. Collett, J. O’Halloran, Logan Tuki, J. Knobloch and G. Gurran. Several junior players were included in the junior representative team and to them too the club extends congratulations. “At the beginning of the Reason the club combined with the basketball and cricket clubs in conducting a dance, which resulted in a profit to this club of £2 17/7. Subscriptions came in well considering the difficult turns through which we are passing, but the club received no other financial support and the funds have been seriously depleted. “At the commencement of the season Mr N Verran, who had been appointed | a*. senior selector, found that he Mould be unable to continue in that office, and Mr J. Fletcher was appointed to fill the vacancy. Towards the end of the season the club also lost the services of Mr H. Flynn, the secretary, who left tor the South Island to take up a position. “In the junior team difficulty was experienced last season in the question of travelling expenses. A number of the players wore unemployed, or employed on part-time work only, and the cost of travelling was a problem which was bard to overcome. The team was extremely fortunate in having the

of vehicles belonging to supporter* ol the team for most of their *»ay matches, but this means oi traiispoi t does not appear to he available lor the coming seacun, and if a junior team is to be successiully earned ou this ia a matter which will have to be given consideration. “In conclusion 1 would like to extend the sincere thanks oi the club to ali those who assisted in any way during the past season, and particularly to the playing members. The numbers ot the senior team, by continued effort, were able to again reach the final in their competition, being defeated by Takapau for the championship. I'he junior team, while not so aucccssfiil, was, despite many difficulties, able to take the field for all its matches. ) trust that th* new fCason will see u revival o| interest in local football, and that this club will be enabled to carry on with continued success.’’
