HAUMOANA NOTES

Beach Improvement Society The Haumoana Beach Improvement Society held its monthly meeting in the Haumoana Hall on Tuesday evening. Mr J. Osborne presided over Messrs Thorburn, Cockerill, Greening, Gordon, T. A. Smith, Harvey, McCarthy, and Thomson (secretary). Accounts were passed for payment. & report on au interview with the Hawke s Bay Power Board regarding the pump for the water supply at the bathing sheds was accepted. A sub-coinmittce was set up for discussing ways and means of improving Blake Park for a camping site. The committee would accept with thanks additional funds towards the appeal. This money is urgently needed for improvements.

TENNIS CLUB.

A meeting of the Haumoana Tennis Club was held on Wednesday evening, when Air G. H. Smith presided over a very good attendance of members. Several accounts were passed for payment. It was decided to hold a fancydress afternoon on March 23. This wid take the form of a Yankee tournament. A dance will follow in the Haumoana Hall in the evening. The courts are in great order, and a splendid afternoon’s sport will be assured to all those who attend.

SCHOOL AFFAIRS.

A meting of the Clive Grange School Committee was held on M ednesday evening, Mr Manning presiding over Messrs Lloyd, Chapman, Freeman, Samdon, Cockerill and the secretary, Mr XV. Simpson. Accounts amounting to £7 4/6 were passed for payment. The headmaster reported that the roll number is 103 and the average daily attendance 98.5. The committee granted a half-holiday to the school children on Show Day. The balance-sheet of the Napier Frivolity Minstrels concert revealed a net profit of £7 2/3. Two offers, one of grass seed for sowing round the school, and the other of an iron tank as a destructor, were received with thanks. It was decided to hold a “shop” day in Hastings in the near future.
