ANOTHER £50,000 GIFT
Lord Nuflield's Generosity CHEQUE FOR AUSTRALIA (Received 15, 10.15 a.m.) CANBERRA, March 15. The Commonwealth Government has received a donation of £50,000 from Lord Nuffield to help the crippled children of Australia. N.Z. NATIONAL TRUST Mr. Norwood's Proposal (By Telegraph—Press Association,) WELLINGTON, March 15. A suggestion that the fund inaugurated by Lord Nuflield to assist crippled children should fie made a national trust was put forward yesterday by Mr C. J. B. Norwood. “I see no better way,” he said, “to commemorate the forthcomink anniversary of the birth of his Majesty than to create a national fund which will place the crippled children of this country iu a position to enjoy the latest seis ice has to offer in this type of work “I have had the benefit of the deliberations of half a dozen of our most pronunent and capable men, and the result of these deliberations warrants me in stating that the maximum results and most efficient operation ot the fund finally subscribed, together with Lord Nuflield’s gift, should be administered through a trust, the personnel of which cannot tail to be acceptable to the whole of New Zealand. Immediately unaer this trust would be a simple executive, the personnel of which would probably be the elect of district associations which would ' be formed in every centre.” INFANTILE PARALYSIS Town Being Deserted MELBOURNE, March 15. Because of the spread of infantile paralysis the town of Camperdown and the surrounding district are gradually becoming deserted. Over 50 families up till the present have left their homes. Eighteen cases of infantile paralysis have been admitted to hospital.
