Ihe annual general meeting of the I Hastings townswomen's Guild was held in the Oddfellows’ Hall, yesterI day afternoon, when a large number > of members were present, dlrs A. Mrs F .S. Budd, being at the piano, and following this everyone joined m the Women's Institute | creed. ths Glcnny apologised lor the absence ot Mrs Maddison, the guild ; president and read a telegram that she had sent wishing them every success at the meeting. Mrs Glcnny explained that Mrs Maddison was only absent as she was in Rotorua with Mr Aladdison, who had been ill, and a vote of sympathy was passed to him. A telegram was also received from Mr Maddison conveying his best wishes to the guild. Alls Glenny welcomed all new mem- - bers as well as old ones, whom she hoped were ready for work after the holidays. The annual report was read and adopted .Mrs If. \V. C. Baird, as vice-presi-I dent, thanked the honoorary secretary, Mrs O’Meara, for her excellent ' report and all the work she had done - for the guild. She was then presentr 1 with a lovely posy in deep red shades from the guild, ( ircle reports were given by the leaders and it was with great regret that Mrs W. C. Whitlock’s resignation | was received. Mis Whitlock, who is leaving Havelock North, was a most ; I excellent leader of the music circle. Mrs Glenny said that having heard | of the guilds activities during the past year, she felt that much had been accomplished. She impressed on the members that the guild belonged to them and that they wore expected to do their best for the success of the I organisation remembering that the in- ' coming committee would welcome sug- , gestions for improving the guild. She thank-" the committee tor its help throughout the year and also Mrs Maddison. whoso help and sympathy —— |

were greatly appreciated, her organising nullity ami tact having largely helped towards the success oi the guild. The speaker also thanked the secretary and treasurer for their services, and said what a great deal the members owed to the circle leaders, who were always ready with their services. In conclusion she thanked all others who had contributed towards the success oi the guiTd, and hoped that members who had suffered bereavements found fellowship and comfort in the guild Airs Lovell-Smith proposed a vote of thanks to Mrs Glenny, who, as everyone knew, put her heart and soul into the work she did for the guild. The honorary treasurer, Aliss S. Wellwood, submitted the financial statement, this showing a satisfactory financial position, and was adopted. hollowing this Mrs Deans gave a short talk on the guild magazine, explaining proposed alteration aud asking the members to improve the magazine by contributing articles and supporting it when pugiishcd. Mrs Glenny then presented Airs llattheral with the prize she had won for the most points in the magazine competition. The officers for tlie ensuing year were elected, the committee having been voted for early m the afternoon.
