ORCHARD TAX

Proposed 1 - Increase By Telegraph Press Association. WELLING I ON, Feb. The Orchard's Tax Amendment Bill was introduced and read for the fust time in the House of Representatives this morning. The Prime Minister, Mr Forbes, said that the measure provided for an increase in the orchard tax from 1/- to 2/- an acre. The reason was to enable research work to be carried out. The Bill was promoted at the request of the industry. The matter was urgent, as the tax was payable on March I and it was neci ssary foi the Bill to be passed before then.
