Lord and Lady Bledisloe HIS EXCELLENCY’S REPLY The following lette. ol farewell to the Governor-General, land Bledisloe, and to Lady Bledisloe was sent, to His Excellency recently by the DeputyMayor ol Hastings, Mr. A. I. Rainbow :— "Sir, — In the absence of the Mayor, 1 am directed by my council to say how much they regret the tact thut it will be impossible lor you and Her Excellency to visit Hastings belore your return to England. “1 am asked to take this opportunity ol paying a respectful tribute from the Hastings Borough Council to you for your services to this country during your term ot office. "We feel that your knowledge on matters relating to" primary production has been of the greatest value to this country, and so tar as the borough is concerned we have the most grutrlul recollections ol your kindly interest ill us ana 111 our district at the time ol the earthquake in February, 1931. ‘‘May we express the hope that on your return to England you will continue to take a sympathetic interest in the affairs of this country." His Excellency has replied a* follows :— “Dear .Mr. Deputy-Mayor,—Yo«r kind message ol the 21st February addressed to me on behalf of the Hastings Borough Council has given me much gratification. In thanking you tor its generous expressions of friendli goodwill, I desire to assure you that Her Excellency and I will always retain our deep interest in and sympathy with the borough ot Hastings and its warmhearted inhabitants."
