WEST INDIES v. M.C.C.

Bowlers Keep Play Quiet ONLY MODERATE SCORES By Telegraph—Press Assn.—Copyright GEORGETOWN, Feb. IG. The weather was fine when play resumed on Friday in the Test between M.C.C. and the West Indies. Vigorous fielding despite one or two missed catches, combined with excellent wicketkeeping and fast bowling against which the batsmen were funereal, kept down England's score. Wyatt batted very slowly for 125 minutes. Hammond was subdued and took 50 minutes to score his first 15. He batted 130 minutes. Occasional flashes resulted in five boundaries. Paine luckily survived 185 minutes. He hit eight fours. Constantine was bowling at medium pace with an occasional fast one. Rolfe Grant’s puzzling slows tied down Hendren. Leyland put on three runs in 25 minutes.

England collapsed after tea against the fast bowling. The last five put on 28. Hylton’s final spell took 3 for 8 in four overs. Martindale in the last over took 2 for 10.

To-day, emulating England’s slow motion play, the West Indies, against keen bowling and fielding, made a poor showing until Headley’s cutting and on-driving revived the game. He batted 90 minutes and bit seven boundaries. Wishart batted 200 minutes and once did not score for 25 minutes despite the batsman's wicket. The crowd barracked the bowiers owing to over-many off deliveries that were too wide for the batsmen to reach. Hollies after tea had an inspired spell, flighting deceptively and changing pace cleverly. He was chiefly responsible for the last seven wickets falling in five concluding overs. He took five for eight. ENGLAND. First Innings. Townsend, 1.b.w., b R. Grant .. x Smith, c Headly, b Hylt.on .. .. 25 Wyatt, cG. Grant, b Martindale .. 21 Paine, st.
