TRANS-TASMAN MAILS

Not Worth the Time Saved

By Telegraph—Presa Association. WELLINGTON, Jan. 11

The Bt. Hon. G. W. Forbes, Prime Minister, said to-day that the bringing of mails across the Tasman by air was a matter for the Postmaster-Gen-eral and had not been before Cabinet. It would cost a good deal and depended upon how much we were prepared to pay. He was not inclined to think that the time saved would warrant the extra eost. The time saved would not be very great unless planes arriving in Australia just failed to connect with trans-Tasnian steamers. Mails could be flown across in a day, but steamers did not take long.
