DANNEVIRKE SHOW

On February 12 and 13 Following the established custom, the annual show of the Dannevirke A and P. Association—the 26th—will be held this year in the second week in Febtuj aj y, on the 12th and 13th. Catalogues have been circulated but those who have not received one may obtain a copy on application to the secretaries, Box 38, Dannevirke. The society has revised its schedule of classes in many important details and it offers opportunities to all who desire to enter into competition in regard to stock exhibits, needle-work and home industries, besides in other special classes. Cash prizes and trophies to the value of £9OO have been attractively spread and those desirous of being rcprescDted should lose no time in making themselves acquainted with the details of the various clashes. There arc the usual classes for horses and competitions with special stipulations regarding prize money in the event of entries not being up to specified numerical strength. On the first day in addition to the pony jumping there will be a Gretna Green race, which besides being a novelty item should prove most amusing. Jt is lor couples, who gallop bo be married, and after signing the register gallop back to the starting point. There are prizes for the first

and second couple. There is a turning event for ladies and gentlemen ,in pairs, for which post entries will be accepted and another novelty—a ball and basket competition, for ladies and gentlemen in pairs There is also a jumping event for horses that have not won a jumping or steeplechase competition at the time of entry at any agricultural show, also a wire jump for ladies, hunting style. On the second day good prizes are to be won in the saddle horse and harness horse divisions, including a challenge cup, value £lO/10-, for the champion hack, w’hile there is a new' class for most original pony and

rider under the age of 17, attired in fancy dress. There are also the champion hunters’ competition (open), carrying prize money of £5/5/-, a ladies hunters’ competition, wire jumping and a consolation jump. The introduction of the novelties should strengthen the already strong attraction of the ring events on both days. General entries close on January 26th, including those for the sheep dog trial, to be held under the rules of the North Island Sheep Dog Trial Association.
