Australian Championships

The Australian tennis championships were continued. In the singles, Crawford defeated A. H. Temple 6—l, 6—l, 6—2; Turnbull defeated Grinstead 97 g—4, 6 —3; Bromwich defeated Kirby i—6, 6—2,. 7—5, 6—l; Clemenger defeated Brugnon 6 —4, 6—4, 6—2.
In the women’s singles, Miss Round defeated Miss D. Mauger 6—2, 6—2; Mrs Hopman defeated Miss Weston 11—9 6Q; Miss Dearman defeated Miss Wynne 6—3, 6—2; Miss Blick defeated Mrs Molesworth 6—4. 4—6.
Crawford showed that he is in good form in his first singles appearance in the championships. He hit all strokes strongly with the utmost confidence.
Miss Blick scored one of the greatest victories in her career in a thrilling three-set battle against Mrs Molesvvortli, the second-ranked woman player in Australia. Miss Blick six times held the match point before she could clinch.
Both the Englishwomen, Miss Round and Miss Dearman, were in good form and had no difficulty in winning.
Turnbull was not impressive, and was fully extended by Grinstead, the brilliant Queensland player. Bromwich, the youthful New South Wales player, who played brilliantly in the Victorian championships, again camo to light to-day, defeating Kirby in a well-fought contest. Broinwich'« play was much admired.
