NAPIER DX CLUB

Fortnightly Meeting Held The usual fortnightly meeting of the Napier branch of the DX Club was held on Tuesday evening last in the club rooms, Herd’s buildings, Carlyle street, with a good attendance of members and visitors. A vote of condolence was expressed to the parents and sister of the late treasurer (Mr Syd. R. Spackman), all standing as a mark of respect and esteem. Mr Spackman was one of the founders of the club and a very keen “DXer.” Mr lan F. Baird was elected to the vacancies on the general and' entertainment committees and Mr Crawford was appointed treasurer. At the request of intending lady members it was decided that the formation of the sub-branch be held over until the end' of March. The lecturer for the evening was Mr lan F. Baird, who took for his subject “The inside of a talkie transmission room” and for over an hour thoroughly explained with the use of the blackboard, a microphone, several necessary valves, specimens of talkie films, a “pick-up” and other sundry instruments the various details necessary for the projection and reproduction of a talkie. It was exceedingly interesting and instructive and the attention of all was held, as was evidenced by the many questions that were asked of the lecturer at the conclusion. A very hearty vote of thanks and appreciation was tendered to Mr Baird, who suitably replied, and said it would be a pleasure for him in the near future to give a full description of a television machine. The verification judges, owing to the large number submitted, had no easy task and the following cups were awarded: —N.Z. Cup, Committee, Ultimate, lan F. Baird and the T. B. Lockyer. The other cup competitions were held over until the January meeting.
