EVERYBODY COMING
Gay Night for Hastings
R.S.A. BALL ON THURSDAY Many parties of country people, notably from Waimarama, Sherenden, Okawa, Kereru, and Puketapu, have already bought tickets for the R.S.A. ball on Thursday, and have notified Mr. O’Dowd, chairman of the committee, that they are most certainly going to join in the fun and do their best to make the night a success. There is no doubt at all about the townspeople, for the dance is being enthusiastically discussed as the last great social event of the winter, and the first of the spring.
An indication of how keen everybody is about it may be judged from the fact that a businessman of the town, combining good’ salesmanship with the business of a small meeting -which he had to attend last Monday, sold eight double tickets and one single. There was only one person present who did not buy a ticket. Even if you do not wish to go to the ball, there is no reason why you should not buy a ticket and give it to someone who can go. Thus you will be making someone an acceptable gift and at the same time contributing to the funds of the R.S.A.
Mr. Gordon Redward’s and Mr. Les Henry’s orchestras will both be playing on Thursday, and the programme will include the old Digger waltz, “Apres La Guerre Finit.” The decorations will be the most ambitious ever attempted at any dance in Hastings. All sorts of “Diggerish” novelties will be introduced’ to give the ball the proper atmosphere, and there is every evidence that it will be one of the gayest nights the town has known, and one of the most brilliant social successes.
